ADVANCED BUSINESS CONSULTING AND THE FLORIDA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MERGE TOGETHER FOR "BOOT CAMP”

 An informative mid-day event filled with free food, prizes and giveaways is planned for Flagler College Tallahassee to promote awareness and consideration of the Florida Army National Guard as a viable career option.  The “START HERE, GO ANYWHERE” event will take place April 4th and 5th at Tallahassee Community College.

            Students stopping by the event to learn more about the career opportunities within the Florida Army National Guard and information about being a Florida Guardsman can enjoy scaling a rock wall, venturing through a challenging obstacle course, and attendees could end up walking away with prizes such as carabineers and koozies.  Visitors will also have a chance to meet recruiters to discuss opportunities with the Florida Army National Guard.

“Edventure Partners Strategic Marketing Internship Program is a perfect culmination to Flagler College’s undergraduate business education.  The Program gives students the opportunity to take the theoretical concepts taught through our diverse curriculum and to cognitively apply it to a “real world” organization,” said Faculty Advisor, Dr. Richard Leonard. 

            “Start Here Go Anywhere” is the culmination of a semester-long effort by Advance Business Consulting, which consists of fourteen Flagler College students participating in the Florida Army National Guard Collegiate Marketing Program- a unique industry-education partnership that gives students the opportunity to apply their classroom work in a real-world situation.

            “This program allows for students to work for an actual client and help to develop strategies that will be used by the Florida Army National Guard.  It is a learning experience that is truly unique," said EdVenture Partners Program Facilitator Paul Godfry.

Executive Student Coordinator Stefanie Smith agrees, "We are so excited not only to inform the community about the Florida Army National Guard and all of their contributions, but also to show the community who we are as Flagler students and the high caliber of education we are receiving on the Tallahassee Community College campus." 

Before promotional design could begin, the class conducted extensive research to help determine a direction for their marketing campaign.  91% of TCC students are aware of the Florida Army National Guard; however 30% of students would not consider joining because they want to finish school and are unaware of the educational assistance programs offered by the Florida Army National Guard.  The focus of “Start here go anywhere” is to show students how they can still finish school and help the community at the same time.

However, the event is not the end of the road for the students at Flagler College-Tallahassee. A post-event evaluation is necessary in order to analyze the success of the campaign and students will research the effects of the event on their target market. The program participants will present the results of their research, along with an evaluation of their campaign strategy to client representatives within the Florida Army National Guard. This presentation is a unique opportunity for students to develop their public speaking and presentation skills.
